A Mother's Love

Today is Mother's Day. And that means an entire period of twenty-four hours meant to honor dear old Mummy. This holiday in particular is held in rather high regard among the calendar occasions alongside Christmas and Easter. Especially compared to Father's Day, which has feminists bemoaning its existence every year. But that's another blog post.
For me, the ideal mother should be able to shower her children with love and affection. It is her duty to nurture them properly so they grow up well. To do that, she must cherish and care for them. This involves teaching them proper behavior and etiquette to be respectful when around other people as well as the difference between right and wrong. But a mother must also know when to be firm. Discipline is never enjoyable to enforce for anyone, but it is still necessary. Without it, children grow up to become entitled or rebellious.
My own mother and I have had a rather tumultuous relationship throughout our entire lives. Yet looking back, I can proudly say that she fulfilled all of those qualities throughout my entire life. I am honored to call myself her son.
Happy Mother's Day, Mom.
